Essay tentang Sastra Minoritas

Find and explain the example illustration related to Identity Plot by Amy Hungerfold: The character is at odd with the minority group of which he or she is part, as well as with majority group he or she is part” in the novel entitled The Woman Warrior.

Answer:
In the first chapter of The Woman Warrior I find the story from Maxine’s mother about her aunt in China. In this chapter Maxine indirectly delivers not only the story of her aunt but also the Chinese culture regarded to woman told by her mother. Maxine as the first generation of Chinese in America feels curious about her identity. On the one hand, her mother told her about Chinese culture and story about her aunt but the story happened at China. In fact, Maxine lived in America. On the other hand, she never knows about how china looks like and what Chinese cultures are. She has to find herself in America the place where there are so many immigrants from around the world. She was told stories about Chinese culture but in the real life she lives in the world that Chinese was the minority group and has small chance to develop their own culture.

As a member of minority group, Maxine had to negotiate between her mother’s cultural values. Moreover, as the second generation she should be able to adapt the country’s cultural values. As what she mentioned on her novel
The emigrants confused the gods by diverting their curses, misleading them with crooked streets and false names. They must try to confuse their offspring as well, who, I suppose. Threaten them in similar ways-always trying to get things straight, always trying to name the unspeakable. The Chinese I know hide their names: sojourners take new names when their lives change and guard their real names with silence. (taken from No Name Woman)
Based on that paragraph we can see that Maxine as a Chinese American confused why Chinese had to change their name. However, if we take a red line between changing a name and silence, there is a relation on those two. In this book, Maxine also tells us that in Chinese tradition, people need to keep silence in order to keep their good image. There would be a negative effect if people knew about the bad experience and notorious story of Chinese people in their home country. This is also what made Maxine’s mother asked her not to tell her father that her mother told about her aunt. This is because her father wanted to burry this story and started a new life in America. He was afraid if people knew that story it would give bad impacts to his family.
The other example with the same idea of silence is about Maxine’s friend who always keep silence in her class. Her friend was afraid that people know about her father who is a drinker and gambler. She thought that if people know about her father she would be deported from school.
Maxine as a Chinese American woman found herself difficult in adapting the culture in America. America which is dominated by White Anglo men, gives a little space for her to develop herself. This is not only because she is a Chinese but also she is a woman. Facing the discrimination toward her society, she also mentioned the story how Chinese has a legendary woman warrior known as FaMulan. But here, I do not concern on that story but more focus on the Maxine life in the Woman Warrior. As she mentioned that it is hard for her to get a good job. Even when she was at school, there is no guarantee of appreciation whether she got good or bad score.
In her place (America) she feels wrong or odd because of how the society treat her. Then she wrote the White Tiger that tells about a woman warrior from China named FaMulan. In this case, she sees that Chinese culture has a woman warrior and woman has power and ability to become a knight. Fa Mulan which is told to show the woman power role in China, is actually the weakness of woman role in China if we really understand the story. Even though FaMulan is a woman warrior, when she became a warrior she acted and pretend that she was a man. She wore a knight armed uniform when she was at the battle. It is indeed she is a strong woman but what people know is that she is a man. If Chinese people also treat woman equal as man, why FaMulan has to pretend to be a man. It shows that even in Chine woman also has less dominant role in the society.
Maxine’s mother who is actually a doctor (Shaman) in China cannot become a doctor when she is in America. Using many herbs to cure people in China does not help in America. People in America were not common with woman who has ability more than man. It made her mother only becomes a housewife after living in America. Those story shows that Maxine even in America still confused about her identity. She only knows Chinese culture from the story of her mother, in the other hand she is uncommon with the society in America which is different with the story of her mother.
In the next example, Maxine shows how her mother gives or in this case “forces” ghost druggist to do what normally Chinese druggist do to their customers by giving candy along with their drugs. It is actually a tradition of Chinese people that shows their hospitality to other people. In this narration Maxine also shows the Chinese tradition towards superstition. As stated in the chapter “A Song for a Barbarian Reed Pipe”, her mother believes that the druggist who is wrong bringing a sick medicine to her house brings bad curse and it should be change with sweetness which will be get by giving candy. That is what Maxine’s mother reason to ask Maxine to go to the drugstore and ask her to ask candy from the druggist.
Maxine does not believe such a superstition. Actually she has said to her mother that there is no such curse as what she said only because of wrong druggist. She also adds that by asking candy to a druggist in the drugstore makes her become a beggar but her mother still insists her to go to the drugstore. It shows that Maxine herself feels odd with the tradition of her mother which is actually a tradition from her group as Chinese.
Based on above examples, I can conclude that The Woman Warrior is a story which shows the readers how Maxine as I in the novel adapts herself as the first generations of Chinese American who also looks for her identity whether she wants to know her original traditions (China) or the new tradition where she lives as American. In adapting her situation, Maxine does what her mother told to her. However sometimes she has the opposite argument but her mother has stronger reason. She also tried herself so hard to adapt with the society in her environment by learning English as we know that Chinese language is so different from English. Moreover, she tried to speak louder than the other Chinese girl which is well-known as very soft voice. However, the soft voice of Chinese girl is to show what Chinese American feminine is.

Tess of The d’Ubrbervilles
Adapted by Tim Hall

One day, Mr. Durbeyfield found his self as a noble family from d’Ubervilles family as said by Parson Tringham. On the same day Tess (his oldest dougther) went on a party. In that party there was a young man named Angel who was in his way with his two brothers but his brothers didn’t to join with him to dance for a while. It was too late for Angel to ask Tess to dance with because he had to catch up with his two older brothers, Cuthberg and Felix Clare.

She went to market at night with her brother, Abraham, but unfortunately the horse which pulled her carriage dead because she was asleep while controlling the speed wagon. Then, she went back home to Marlott. Her mother asked her to visit Mrs. D’Ubervilles only to get in touch and to know each other that they were relatives. When she arrived at the front side of Mrs. d’Ubervilles, a man came closer to her. He, Alec, said that he was the son of d’Ubervilles family. He seduced Tess and made her come again to the place and work as a poultry-keeper for Mrs. d’Ubervilles.

In Tess second visit, Alec drove her to her house with his horse. On the way he made their way lost in purpose. Instead of looking for a right way he went to a deep fog. Then he left Tess in the wood with his horse and he went to find the right way. Not so long, Alec came back where he left Tess. He found Tess fall asleep in middle of deep fog. Then that night he touched Tess and she became impure girl anymore.

She went back to her house and finally gave a birth a baby. She named him Sorrow. A week later the baby was sick and dead after she baptized her baby herself. After the death of his son, he moved to Talbothays Dairy. He left her past and started new day there as a milkmaid. In that farm she had 3 friends, Izz, Retty and Marian. She also met with a man who was late to ask her to dance when in Marlott. At first the man didn’t recognize her, but finally he did. As time goes by, Angel and Tess often met and became fall in love.

At first Tess refused Angel’s purpose to marry her. She thought that she was not an appropriate girl for Angel because she was no longer pure. But she cannot tell him all her past. Then Angel went to his house in Emminsters. At first his parents didn’t agree but after all he can persuade his parents to meet Tess. Angel purposed Tess many times and finally Tess agreed to marry him. She is advised by her mother to not tell all her history to Angel.

After their wedding, at night, they confessed that first Angel aver slept with a women when he was in London. Then second Tess decided to tell the truth about her past included her baby. She thought that she would be forgiven. Instead of being forgiven by her new husband, she decided to separate with her husband in the morning after their wedding. She went home in Marlott and Angel went to Brazil to find a farm field.

Day after day passed and Tess become poorer than before. Then she found a job in the dairy milk but this one is in Flintcomb-Ash. She worked there with her friend, Marian. Because she ran out of money, she decided to come to Angel’s family. When she arrived at Emminsters she had no brave to meet with Angel’s family. Then on the way back home, Tess met a person which his sound was similar to her. He was Alec. He became a nice person. He gave speech in church. He changed because of Mr. Parson Claire, Angel’s father.
Alec wanted to marry Tess. He kept asking her to marry with him and he would take care all of her needs and her family needs. More over her dad was passed away because of over drinking.  Then she told Alec that she had married. Alec made sure that her husband would never come back again to England. Finally, Tess wrote a letter for Angel that she really loved Angel and wanted him to go back soon. She cannot live without him. Knowing the condition of her friend, Marian sent a letter to Angel that his wife was in danger that somebody wanted her. Because Tess was upset she wrote a second letter to Angel that said she was angry with him because he didn’t go back home. Receiving the second letter and a letter from Tess’ friend made Angel sure that he need to go back to England. But when he met Tess, everything had changed. Tess became a nice lady with her nice dress because of the help from Alec. She with heavy heart ignored Angel.
She became sad and blamed all of this to Alec who started to make her past so dark. She still loves Angel, and so does Angel. Then she decided to kill Alec in the hotel where they stayed and ran away to Angel. But finally the police knew Tess location and brought her to be death sentenced.

http://cdn.famous101.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Prideandprejudiceposter.jpg
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

Mrs. Bennet is very happy knowing that there will be new young rich single man who comes to Netherfield. His name is Mr. CharlesBingley. Mrs. Bennet, who has five unmarried daughters, wants one of her daughters, especially Jane, the oldest one, to marry him.

When a ball is held in Netherfield, Mr. Bingley comes with his sisters Caroline and Louisa Hurst, his brother in-law Mr. Hurst, and his closed-friend Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Everyone in the ball is very glad and impressed with Mr. Bingley manner during the ball. He dances with Jane as well which makes Mrs. Bennet keeps talking about how fit Jane and Mr. Darcy are. Different from Mr. Bingley, Mr. Darcy is very proud and does not dance with any others, except Bingley’s sister. Even when Elizabeth asks him to dance he refuses with his proud.

After that ball, Jane and Mr. Bingley seem falling in love each other’s but Jane just too shy to show it. Unfortunately, Bingley’s sisters disagree if her brother has lower status mother-in-law and Mr. Darcy himself does not see that Jane has same feeling like Bingley does.

Another day, Jane gets letter from Caroline Bingley to have dinner with Bingleys’ and she tells her that her brother is not at home. Jane decides to come and after arriving at Bingley’s house, she is sick because she gets rain on her way and has to rest there. In the morning Elizabeth gets letter from Jane and She tells her that she will be back soon after her sick is gone. Then Elizabeth decides to visit her sister. Elizabeth sleep there as well till her sister feeling better. Elizabeth also usually joins with Bingley’s family in the chat room in the afternoon and meets Mr. Darcy there.

As time goes by, Mr. Darcy often meet Elizabeth and start loving her because of her smart talk and attracting eyes. But Elizabeth only sees the proud in Mr. Darcy speak instead of his feeling.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth attracted to George Wickham, a militia officer. Wickham is easy to make friend with his good manner. He tells Elizabeth about his family and what Darcy did to him so that he now only can join the militia. He tells bad things about Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth only agrees on Mr. Wickham talk and dislikes him even more.

Another day Mrs. Bennet’s family has a visitor. He is Mr. William Collins, who works as a clergyman and get instruction from his patroness, Lady de Brough, to get married. Mr. Collins is Mr. Bennet’s relative who will inherit the house when Mr. Bennet dies. At first Mr. Collins wants to marry Jane, but Mrs. Bennets recommends him to propose Elizabeth because Mrs. Bennet tells him that Jane has been proposed by Mr. Bingley. But Elizabeth refuses him because she does not love him. Few days later Mr. Collins proposes Elizabeth’s friend, Ms. Charlotte Lucas.

Jane loses her hope when she receiving letter from Caroline Bingley that the Bingleys and friend will go to London and probably do not intend to return to Netherfield. Knowing this Elizabeth thinks that it must Bingley’s sisters and Mr. Darcy who responsible for keeping Jane from Mr. Bingley.

When Elizabeth visits her friend, Charlotte Lucas or now Mrs. Collins, in Kent, she meets Lady de Brough’s daughter and invites Elizabeth to dine in her estate. Elizabeth meets Mr. Darcy there when Mr. Darcy visiting his aunt. In other occasion Mr. Darcy talks to Elizabeth and proposes to marry him, but Elizabeth still has bad impressions of him. She tells him how he can propose while in the last time he made her sister far from Bingley and gave bad manner to Mr. Wickham. After hearing the reasons why his proposal is refused by Elizabeth, in the next day he sends letter to Elizabeth which explains why he trying to keep Jane from Bingley and the true story about Wickham. Elizabeth thinks that what was written on the letter is right. She feels sorry for her prejudice about Mr. Darcy.

Returning from Kent, Elizabeth goes to Derbyshire with her aunt and Uncle Gardiner. Then her uncle and aunt ask her to visit Pemberley where Mr. Darcy lives. At that time they did not know that Mr. Darcy is at home. Then Mr. Darcy welcomes them politely and introduces his sister, Georgiana Darcy to Elizabeth and her aunt and uncle.

While Elizabeth considers her feeling to Mr. Darcy, the next day after visiting Pemberley, she gets letter from Jane which tells her bad news about her youngest sister, Lydia, who has eloped with Wickham. Then Elizabeth, her uncle and aunt go to Netherfield as soon as they could. Mr. Bennet and Mr. Gardiner look for Lydia and Wickham in London. It’s a disgrace for the Bennet’s family because of this accident and it makes Elizabeth afraid that this situation makes Mr. Darcy does not love her anymore.

The next day, Lydia is found with Wickham and they married. Wickham can marry Lydia because of the help from Mr. Darcy. Such a good thing will happen, when Mr. Bingley comes to Netherfield with Mr. Darcy and visits Bennet’s family. Then Mr. Bingley proposes Jane and straightly Jane accept it.
Elizabeth realizes that Mr. Darcy was the one who helps her family related to Lydia marriage and Bingley’s proposal to her oldest sister, Jane.

The day after Bingley’s proposal, Lady Catherine de Brought visits Netherfield and talks to Elizabeth rudely and asks whether Mr. Darcy has proposed her or not. She also asks Elizabeth not to accept Mr. Darcy proposal in the future, because she has planned Darcy’s marriage with her daughter but Elizabeth refuses it.
Knowing that Elizabeth refused to fulfill Lady de Brought demand, Mr. Darcy realizes that Elizabeth might have the same feeling to him. So Mr. Darcy proposes her again. Elizabeth accept it happily. Mr. Bennet also gives his permission for Mr. Darcy to marry Elizabeth.

Contoh Teks Exposition (Hortatory)

The Government Should Improve Services of Batik Solo Trans
As a user of public transportation, I think the local government of Surakarta should improve the quality of the services of Batik Solo Trans (BST). First, there are only few buses operating in a day. Second, only few comfortable bus stops are provided. Last, sometimes they do not come on time.
https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcReLxCHqd1QcAvvQFp7nzVFvoX3MHtmh0UP0JkykyG3kwqfMZa8
example of a nice bus stop of BST near Purwasari

I think the increase of the number of the buses will optimize their transporting goals because they can accommodate more passengers. Sometimes when a bus is full, it cannot carry more passengers so they have to wait for a long time for the next bus. That is why the local government should increase the number of BST.

Next, the bus stops in some areas only have stairs without providing seats for waiting and roof. They are practically used only for passengers getting off or on the bus. We know that bus stops must also be a place for waiting the bus so they need seats, so the waiting passengers can sit and do not need to stand for a long time. Even worse when it rains, it will cause inconvenience towards the passengers. The bus stops need roof too, so the passengers do not get wet when raining.

The last, many people complain about the lateness arrival of the bus. One in account for that is the controller. Some controllers make the bus stop more than 5 until 10 minutes because they sometimes have a chat with the conductors or the drivers and it will take longer time if traffic jam occurs.

Based on the reasons above, I think the local government of Surakarta should improve the quality of services of BST in the hope that it can make the passengers more comfortable in the public transportation especially in BST.

SSC VISITED SANGIRAN

SASERU STUDI CLUB VISITED SANGIRAN

Tugas yang dimaksud adalah tulisan semacam ini dan dibuat sekreatif mungkin.-Unfortunately I was not that creative, but I tried my best- Pengumpulannya  sekitar 10 hari setelah kunjungan atau sekitar tanggal 26 Februari.
I really shocked when seeing a big statue of ancient man there. It was so naked. Yeah, totally naked and you can see that “thing” clearly. The worst is we gathered straight in front of the statue and hardly believed that we took picture with it.

I just thought it would be crowded and not comfortable.

Banyak hal yang menarik disana –for anyone who really likes history and anything which related to it- seperti patung, gambar, multimedia book, and more pictures and descriptions. My shocked was continuing when I saw naked thing again. This is different from the previous one. This is ONLY naked picture of an ancient woman. Foolishly my friend and I took picture with a background that woman.

Perhaps there was one thing that made me uncomfortable. It was the security. When my friends and I were sitting near the diorama stage suddenly he was a little bit yelling at us by saying “disitu bukan tempat duduk!” Finally we move away from the staget and sat in the floor pitily. The situation was quite then my friends offered to take some picture there. So we took picture together and forgot that security for a moment.

We are study club of saseru” jawabku kurang lebih begitu. –Although I was not include on that picture because I was the one who captured the picture. Well, it’s not a big deal, though-

Example of Simple Description Text about My House

My  House

I live in a small house. It's located in Arjuna Street Milkytown. There is a large yard in front of my house. My father plants a mango tree there. On the right side of my house there is a garden. My mother likes gardening in this garden. There are many kinds of flowers, such as: rose, dahlias and many other that I don't know its name. On the left side there is my grandmother's house. And on the back side there are many banana trees which are planted by my father.
From the outside, my house is green in colour. There are 8 rooms in my house. There are living room, 2 bedrooms, a family room, 2 kitchen, ware house and bathroom.
When you enter my house, you will see a small living room with 3 chairs, and flowers on the table. There are photos of my families on the wall. The colour of this room is pink. So you will feel another atmosphere after entering this room.
My bedroom is next to the living room. In my room there are a cupboard, large bed, table, and music player with the speaker. This room is different from the colour. My bedroom is green and the other rooms are pink.  I like reading in this room, because no one will disturb me.
In front of my bedroom there is a special room for guest to have lunch or dinner. And sometimes I always study together with my friends there. There is no chairs at all, just a carpet with a short table and we can relax here.
On the right side of my bedroom is my parents'. There are a bed, dressing table, chair and a cupboard. This room is as large as my bedroom.
The family room is in front of my parents' room. There are a carpet, small table, and television. My parents and I always have a talk in this room. We usually gather in the evening and I always share my activities with them. This room is also used for having lunch together.
We have two kitchens. The first is located between the bathroom and my parents' room. The function of this kitchen is to cook with modern equipments, such as gas stove, blender, and there is a refrigerator in this room. My mother always does her work as a house wife here. She always prepare my breakfast, lunch and dinner there. The other kitchen is behind the first kitchen next to the bathroom. My mother usually uses this kitchen to cook food traditionally, by using wood in the earthen stove.
The bathroom is behind the first kitchen. And next to it is a ware house. It is used to keep wood and broken equipment that can not be used.
Although it's a small house, it's like a paradise for me, the place where I find happiness, care, and love from my family.

Pendapat mengenai bahasa jawa ngapak

1.  . Mengenai adaptasi mereka dalam penggunaan bahasa
a.    Perbedaan kosa kata yang baru

4.    Pendapat mereka mengenai pengunaan bahasa ngapak di ranah hiburan

God bless us,..!!!
